About This Training

This course is intended for firefighters, police officers, ambulance personnel, government employees, military personnel, and private industry emergency responders.

First Responders at the Operations level are trained to respond to hazardous materials emergencies in a defensive fashion. Their primary role is to contain the release from a safe distance, to keep it from spreading, and to prevent exposures to nearby persons, property or the environment.

OSHA requires FROs to be trained in accordance with section (q) of the HAZWOPER regulation. This class has also been referred to as Hazmat FRO, Level II Responder, First Responder Operations, or any combination of these terms.

This training does require annual refresher training, per OSHA, of sufficient content and duration to maintain responder competencies.
